Really pleased with the results.

After meeting Kelly who was very helpful, we decided to order curtains and blinds for our new house. Amanda, who came to measure, was extremely knowledgeable about her products and offered advice on colours and fabrics when needed. We are very grateful to her and are really pleased with the results. The service, including fitting, was prompt and efficient.

Vescom Vinyl Wallcoverings

Here at Unidrape, we stock a large range of wallcoverings; including Vescom’s vinyl and textured wallcoverings. In today’s blog we will be explaining the many advantages of using a vinyl wallcovering, for your next interior project.

Vescom’s vinyl wallcoverings aim to provide a solution that is not only aesthetically innovative but also practical and simple. Combining the perfect combination of design, technology and service, Vescom offers a distinctive range of vinyl wallcoverings, in a wide variety of designs, patterns and colour palettes.

What are Vinyl Wallcoverings?
Vinyl wallcoverings are composed of a vinyl facing material with a cotton based backing; making it a very strong and durable, colourfast surface that is heavily resistant to scratches and impact in high traffic areas, such as hallways/landings.

What are the advantages of Vinyl Wallcoverings?
Vinyl wallcoverings are extremely heavy duty and long-lasting, and a Vescom vinyl wallcovering can easily have a lifespan of at least 10 to 15 years! Vinyl wallcoverings are colour fast and resistant to general everyday wear and tear. Rooms with high-activity can really benefit from a vinyl wallcovering; scratchproof and impact-resistant, these wallcoverings make the perfect surface for any room and environment.

One of key benefits of vinyl wallcoverings is that they require minimum care and can be easily cleaned, using standard household cleaners! Vescom wallcoverings can also be supplied with Vescom Protect finish, for additional protection against stains and chemicals; this also provides a hygienic wall surface, that can be disinfected.

The full range of Vescom’s vinyl wallcoverings are fully recyclable and are made in an environment-friendly production process that improves the sustainable production and use of PVC.

What designs/colours are available in Vinyl Wallcoverings?
Vescom’s wallcovering collection has no bounds, allowing you to select the perfect wallcovering from a staggering range of over 150 patterns, available in a palette of over 2,000 colours! Making it the perfect component of an interior design project, to let your imagination run free. The diverse and vast variety of vinyl wallcoverings available allows clients to easily incorporate this easy and affordable wallcovering, to almost any wall surface of their home or project. The collection allows you to either select a subtle, soft and cosy neutral wallcovering for an area such as a Living Room or to make a bold, creative statement in an area such as a Bedroom or Entrance/Hallway.

How do you apply Vinyl Wallcoverings?
Vinyl wallcoverings are efficient and simple to mount, they can be fitted quickly and do not require any drying time, alongside the product being odourless; meaning that rooms can be used immediately after handling the product and applying to the wall. To mount vinyl wallcoverings, specialist Vescom adhesive is required; there are a range of Vescom adhesives available to suit the chosen product and surface, based on the weight/square meterage of the surface area.

What are the prices of Vinyl Wallcoverings & how to purchase?
The price of vinyl wallcoverings varies, dependent on the design and weight of the material, and can range from approximately £19 to £30 (per linear metre). Here at Unidrape we have a large collection of Vescom sample books, to show an amazing range of design and colour combinations for vinyl wallcovering options. We can then order your required quantity (in linear metres) and have it delivered directly to store within a week! Vinyl wallcoverings are definitely a worthwhile investment, with no unexpected additional costs during the standard service life of 10-15 years for a wall/project; making it a cost-effective option, compared to standard wallpapers or paints.

Motorised Window Dressings

Motorisation of blinds and curtains is now both widely available and affordable; what was once considered as a premium product requiring an electrician to provide power sources is now cost effective and simple thanks to the huge variety motorisation options that allow everyone to add a touch of luxury to their window dressings.

There are many benefits to having motorised blinds or curtains installed, including certified child safety and accessibility on hard to reach windows.  When used alongside a Somfy home automation system, products can be controlled via an app from home or when away, as well as the option of 7-day timer control, making an excellent security feature. Motorisation is available for most blinds (including; Roller blinds, Venetian blinds and Roman blinds) as well as curtain tracks; all of which can be controlled via the same handset or app. Lighting, heating and security systems can also be integrated with the system.

Until recently, home automation systems were limited to the houses of the rich and famous. Specialist engineers laid a multitude of cables and racks of electronic control units to enable lighting, home entertainment systems and window treatments to be controlled via a hand held or wall mounted screen.  Smartphones, Bluetooth and app development has changed the market entirely. Devices such as the Amazon Alexa and Google Home have made home automation the ordinary for many households.  The plug and play set up and affordable cost of these devices has made them hugely popular, but many homes are not taking advantage of the full range of features they can provide.  It is now possible to control lighting, central heating, blinds and curtains via either of these voice-activated devices; as well as through your smartphone using the Somfy Tahoma or Connexoon interfaces.

Some of our most popular systems use rechargeable lithium-ion battery operated motors. These batteries simply need to be charged 2-3 times a year, using a mains charger that plugs into the motor whilst in situ, meaning the end user does not need to take the product down to charge. These types of motorised blinds are controlled by handsets that are available with numerous ‘channel options’, allowing a series of blinds to be operated both individually and simultaneously, as a group.

Not only can blinds be motorised using lithium-ion technology, but you can now add this luxury to your curtains. Somfy’s Glydea curtain tracks with Irismo batteries allow you to open and close your curtains at the touch of a button. The discreet track allows efficient and sleek operation of all types of curtains, with quiet operation and soft stop and start.

Intelligent motorised systems also provide additional security options for your home. With 7 day timer programming and adjustable pre-programmed scenario settings, your home can look lived in wherever you are.  Even from a sun lounger on holiday, you can control your window dressings and lighting; all from your smartphone!

Contact us to book your local survey, or to find out more about the motorised and home automation options that we offer.

Decluttering – The KonMari Method

There are many ways in which you can make your home look and feel amazing, however many people have the misconceived idea that to enhance your home, you must add items. This ideology is not always true; often you can achieve the perfect home by simply re-organising the items that already exist or by decluttering. Not only will your home look better but your lifestyle will also change for the better. The process of decluttering allows you to only present and keep items in your home, that have true meaning and affect. Most of us by now have heard of Marie Kondo and either read her book or watched her Netflix series. To give a bit of background, Marie Kondo is a Japanese organising consultant/specialist. Kondo’s mission is to ‘help more people tidy their spaces by choosing joy, and we are committed to developing the simplest and most effective tools to help you get there’ and she believes that you can achieve this lifestyle through the ‘KonMari Method’.

Traditionally people often choose to tidy and declutter their items by going through their house, room by room. Often you never finish and can never organise items in the most minimal and simplistic manner possible. On the other hand, the ‘KonMari Method’ proposes that instead, we should organise our belongings by category, Kondo proposes 5 categories; Clothing, Books, Paper, Komono (miscellaneous items) and finally, Sentimental items. This philosophy for tidying is so effective, as it not only impacts and betters your home; but it also addresses your wellbeing, by making your home a serene and inspiring space to be in.

To follow the ‘KonMari Method’ there are 6 simple rules, firstly you must ‘Commit yourself to tidying up’, followed by ‘Imagining your ideal lifestyle’, thirdly ‘Finish discarding first’ and the fourth stage is the key step ‘Tidy by category, not location’. The final two steps are to simply ‘Follow the right order’ and to ‘Ask yourself if it sparks joy.’ To understand whether a belonging ‘Sparks Joy’ you must hold and feel an item and keep only the items that bring/spark joy to your heart, if an item no longer sparks joy you must thank them for their service and then discard of them. This process will make you face your sense of values, leading to a developed sense of mindfulness and optimism. When you are on this journey, the final aim of this process is to have a house full of items that spark joy!

One of the key tips that Marie Kondo proposes in her ‘KonMari Method’ is to change the way in which we fold items, such as clothing. Kondo suggests that even leaving folded clothes, even in a neat, stacked pile is not efficient. She believes that instead you should fold your clothing, so that it stands up; making it easier to feel, find and appreciate your items (staying true to philosophy of the ‘KonMari Method’.) To find out more about Marie Kondo and the ‘KonMari Method’ you can check out her website & book, using the link below! We believe that you can transform your home through the process of Interior Design schemes & decluttering; we can help you create the perfect design scheme, with just the items you already have (but only the ones that Spark Joy!….) https://konmari.com/

Dulux Colour of the Year 2019 – Spiced Honey

Dulux’s colour of the year; Spiced Honey, is certainly contrasting to Pantone’s bright and bold Coral colour of the year, for 2019. Spiced Honey is a muted, warm amber tone; a versatile colour that creates a cosy and calming atmosphere, that can be incorporated to nearly any colour palette or design scheme. This colour was inspired by reflections of the chaos and unpredictable events across the world in 2018 and was selected to enable us to create safe havens and areas of comfort to retreat to, in our homes. Spiced Honey will not simply be a design trend that we paint our walls with, but will hopefully be a state of mind that we can apply to our lives and homes, by incorporating it into our design schemes! Dulux and designers hope that this colour will create different states of mind, when applied to individual palettes; it is believed that with the correct colours alongside, Spiced Honey will be stimulating, energising but also nourishing and calming (dependent on the room’s setting or the space’s purpose and design scheme).

Rich caramel tones shine through this colour, making it perfect alongside raw, natural accessories (such as linen and hessian) and when teamed with bright white tones, this scheme will make for a bright, refreshing but calming, contemporary interior. Dulux have proposed 4 stunning palettes that enable Spiced Honey to make its’ mark in any space:

‘WARM NEUTRALS’ (State of Mind – ‘Think’): A palette that combines a few already classic and popular colours but brings them together to create an innovative and fresh colour combination – deep blues, rich burgundy and pastel pink shades. We think this palette would be great incorporated into a design scheme for a Study or Office area; the ideal place to ‘think’.

‘SOFT PASTELS’ (State of Mind – ‘Dream’): A palette of muted and soft pastel colours; think of powdery pinks or baby sky blue tones. We think this palette will work wonderfully in a Bedroom space; the perfect serene place to ‘dream’.

‘RICH & WARM’ (State of Mind – ‘Love’): A palette of deep forest greens, rich teals and warm terracotta tones. This palette will work beautifully in a Bedroom or Living Space, creating a cosy, intimate & comforting environment.

‘BOLD BRIGHTS’ (State of Mind – ‘Act’): A bold and adventurous palette, combined of vivid reds, pale pinks, greens and blues with crisp white and grey tones. We think this palette will be fab for a Playroom, Dining or Living Room, to create a fun, motivating and playful atmosphere; the perfect productive area ‘to ‘act’.

Polished natural woods, textured soft furnishings, textiled rugs, pale woods and botanical prints are all ways to enhance Spiced Honey, with simple accessory & furniture pieces. We’ve put together a simple concept board for inspirations and product ideas to incorporate into a design scheme, based on 2019’s Dulux Colour of the Year, Spiced Honey.

The concept that we have put together is based on the ‘Soft Pastels’ scheme; combining Spiced Honey with muted and pastel pink shades, textured wallcoverings (Tessera 1071.02 by VESCOM*), a tan leather sofa, textiled shaggy aztec rug, white & wooden furniture/lighting, textured soft furnishings (pink pom pom cushions), matte muted accessories (ombre ceramic pink round vase) & sheer floaty, bright white voile curtain fabric (Rosa Pearl by KAI fabrics*).

*These items are available to purchase directly from our store, as we are stockists of VESCOM & KAI. Please contact us with any enquiries, via our website!
